Here are 5 tips with which you can make a mark at your workplace without coming across as the boss’s favorite sidekick.

  1. Communicate: Try not to restrict your communication to colleagues from your own department. Introduce yourself to colleagues from other departments as well. Fostering relationships at work is a good way to build coordination and peer support. Also, when you attend an official event, it will be easier for you to start a conversation. Don’t forget the admin, the lady at the reception, or the peon. If you treat the support staff well, then you will earn brownie points as a professional.
  2. Get Easy With Competitions: A competitor for you at work? Don’t panic or get concerned. Earning accolades for hard-work and efforts put in is something every hard-working and efficient person look forward to. At work place you aren’t the sole employee, at times you will have peers who might outskill you. Every hard-working person deserves a reward. So get easy with competitions and take them in a positive way. Focus on your own work and continue with hard work.
  3. Increase Your Knowledge: Books in workplace are signs of intelligence. Keep this in your mind! Good reads, especially business related or the ones with great ideas will give an impression out that you are trying to grow professionally. Remember knowledge will attract audience for you. That means with the knowledge you share with your peers you’ll find them getting back to you to for your advice in future. Stack some books on your desk or probably a shelf if you have a separate cabin.
  4. Stay Unique or Different: Be an organized person. That is one secret recipe to success in every sphere of your life. You’ll definitely earn a reputation for that. Attending a meeting and someone ask you for some deliverables, better carry a pen and paper or even your cell phone to jot down some pints and deliver a great presentation.

Dress well and groom yourself. Your dressing sense reflects your personality and your peers will have a sense about you the way your present yourself. That doesn’t mean you should spend a lot to look good. Whatever you wear you should be able to carry yourself well in that outfit.

Take out few minutes to look sharp daily at work. So make sure you get to hear positive about yourself.

  1. Participate during meeting: Don’t sit silent in a meeting. Make your voice and opinion heard. Do participate and share your ideas if you have any to share with everyone. You might be having a good idea to share which might meet the purpose of the meeting. But that doesn’t mean you should be someone who love to voice his/her opinion ignoring others.

Don’t be afraid to disagree with others even if it is your seniors but do in a respectful and constructive way only.
